ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS


DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

The County's public facilities, its roads, and solid waste management services are the responsibility of the Department of Public Works.

The Department operates through four divisions: Maintenance, Roads, Waste Management, and Water and Wastewater Services.

MAINTENANCE DIVISION
The Maintenance Division manages and constructs capital projects (County Code, secs. 214-1 through 214-49).

ROADS DIVISION
The Roads Division constructs and maintains County roads, bridges, and related structures, and is responsible for traffic safety.

WASTE MANAGEMENT DIVISION
The Environmental Services Division oversees solid waste, including landfills and recycling (County Code, secs. 109-1 through 109-24).

WATER & WASTEWATER SERVICES DIVISION
The Water and Wastewater Services Division manages water and wastewater treatment plants, and is responsible for stormwater management and sediment control.
