Blue Ribbon Commisison on Selection of the Maryland State Archivist was formed in June 2014. Commission conducted a national search for qualified candidates to serve as Maryland State Archivist. Commission's recommendations were submitted to Hall of Records Commission in May 2015, which voted in June 2015 to accept its recommendations and submit a candidate to Governor for appointment.

As part of Governor's technology initiative, Maryland Electronic Capital was homepage for State of Maryland. Started in fall of 1995, it concluded in 2004. Its functions continue under
Maryland.gov, and Maryland Manual On-Line.

MICROFILM IMAGING
Under Digital Acquisition, Processing, and Publication, abolished in Jan. 2014.

OVERSIZED SCANNING SERVICES
Under Quality Assurance in Digital Imaging and Acquisition, functions transferred to Scanning Services in 2006.

PRODUCTION SERVICES
Production Services began as Imaging Services and reorganized as Scanning Services in June 2005. It reformed as Production Services in August 2007.

This division oversaw image acquisition, processing, inspection, and publication from original paper, mylar, or linen documents and from microfilm. Through creation and duplication of microfiche, archival security microfilm and compact discs, photocopy, and photography, Production Services helped preserve and make accessible copies of records. In this way, division assisted government agencies; provided evidential materials for legal matters; and supported State Archives exhibits and publications. It also promoted Maryland scholarship by aiding students, historians, and genealogists.

CD Production & Microfilm Services. This unit produced, catalogued, stored, duplicated, and maintained archival security master-negative microfilm and CD backups of digital record series in possession of Archives.

Image Processing & Quality Assurance. This unit catalogued, inspected, managed, and published digital images produced in-house, received from other agencies, or produced by a scanning vendor under contract with Archives.

Microfilm Scanning. This unit acquired archival quality digital images of targeted record series derived from microfilm.

Paper Scanning. This unit filled requests from public and archival staff for "piece-work" (rather than entire series) scanning of individual documents.

Under Digital Acquisition, Processing, and Publication, abolished in Jan. 2014.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Originally formed as Imaging Services and reorganized as Scanning Services under Digital Imaging and Acquisition in June 2005. Renamed as Project Management, it was placed under Digital Acquisition, Processing, and Publication in Aug. 2007.

Project Management identified scope of requested projects; oversaw fiscal projections and budget management; proposed and managed project work plans; and served as liaison with vendors and sister agencies.

Abolished in Jan. 2014.

QUALITY CONTROL
Under Acquisition and Imaging Services, renamed Quality Assurance in June 2004.

RECORD TRANSFERS & SPACE MANAGEMENT
In Jan. 2012, renamed Inventory and Warehouse Management under Appraisal and Description.

REFERENCE & RESEARCH ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Committee originated as Search Room Advisory Committee in 1988, and adopted its present name in March 2000.

Last met in June 2003.

RESEARCH & STUDENT OUTREACH
Renamed Research and Outreach in July 2016.

SCANNING SERVICES
Under Digital Imaging and Acquisition, abolished in Aug. 2007; functions absorbed by Project Management.

STATE SONG ADVISORY GROUP

In October 2015, at request of Chair of House Health and Government Operations Committee, State Archivist convened State Song Advisory Group. Group consisted of historians, including those expert in music history, military history, cultural history, and folklore. They studied the State Song, "Maryland, My Maryland," and presented alternatives to House Committee prior to 2016 legislative session. To help in evaluating submittals for official State designation, Group developed a set of criteria against which proposals should be measured. Further, Group presented possible alternatives to current State Song for House Committee's consideration.
