• Voter Registration
  To vote in Maryland, you must register to vote (Code Election Law Article, secs. 3-101 through 3-603). Your local board of elections can advise you on how and where to do that. Online Voter Registration also is available.

Since July 2012, the State Board of Elections has made available an Online Voter Registration (OLVR) System. From the Board's website, voters now can register to vote in federal, State, county and municipal elections in Maryland. They also can update their registration to reflect change of name, address, or party affiliation. Additionally, Marylanders can register to vote by completing a voter registration application at the State Board of Elections, any local board of elections, local department of social services, local office on aging, or at one of the following agencies:

Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)
Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Paratransit Certification Office
All public institutions of higher education
Marriage license offices (including county court clerk’s offices)
Offices for students with disabilities at all Maryland colleges and universities
Recruitment offices of the U.S. Armed Forces

• Voting Methods
  In the voter's county of residence, a registered voter may vote:
  
  1) on election day at an assigned polling place,
  2) prior to election day at an early voting center,
  3) or by absentee ballot.

• Primary Elections
  Next primary election: June 26, 2018.

  In Presidential Election years: held on 4th Tuesday in April (2020, 2024) (Chapter 332, Acts of 2015; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-201).

  In Gubernatorial Election years: held on last Tuesday in June (2018, 2022) (Chapter 169, Acts of 2011; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-201).

• General Elections
  Next general election: November 8, 2016.
  

  In even-numbered years: held on the Tuesday after 1st Monday in November (2016, 2018)
  (Chapter 99, Acts of 1956, ratified Nov. 6, 1956: Const., Art. XV, sec. 7; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-301).

• Primary Elections
  Next municipal primary election: April 28, 2020 (for mayor, city council, & comptroller)

  Next municipal primary election: June 26, 2018 (for circuit court clerk, orphans' court judges, register of wills, sheriff, & state's attorney)

  In Presidential Election years: held on 4th Tuesday in April (2020, 2024) (Chapter 332, Acts of 2015); Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-201).

• General Elections
  Next municipal general election: November 8, 2016.

  In Presidential Election years: held on the Tuesday after 1st Monday in November (2020, 2024) (Chapter 548, Acts of 2012; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-301).
