The Department is responsible for the organization and conduct of County public recreation and parks. It also oversees the organization and conduct of all public parks, playgrounds, and other recreational facilities (Code Local Government Article, secs. 1-601 through 1-611; County Code, secs. 70-1; 179-1 through 179-14).
Appointed by the County Executive with County Council consent, the Commission consists of at least fifteen members who serve three-year terms (Code Local Government Article, sec. 1-606; County Code, sec. 70-2).

RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION
The Recreation and Parks Commission formed in 1946 to operate recreation programs and facilities. The Commission also worked with the City of Salisbury to help design, build and improve City parks. The Commission advises the County Council on plans and policies for public recreation and the establishment of recreation programs.
