Throughout the year, running events center at various locales throughout Maryland. Maryland Running provides information on running clubs, events, and races.

The Annual Governor's Bay Bridge Run (10k) crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge from the Eastern Shore to Sandy Point State Park on the Western Shore each May. Started in 1985, it was not held in certain years, last run in 2006, and eventually cancelled due to lack of funding. Its successor is the Annual Across the Bay 10K, which started in November 2014. The sixth largest 10K in the United States, it next will be held November 6, 2016.
From the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis and other sites, the Annapolis Striders sponsor marathons and other events, including the annual Annapolis 10-Mile Run, next scheduled for August 28, 2016.
In Baltimore, the Baltimore Marathon, also known as the Baltimore Running Festival, is next scheduled for October 15, 2016. The 26.2-mile race features some $100,000 in prizes. The Baltimore Road Runners Club sponsors running and walking events year round.

The Frederick Running Festival will next be held in May 7-8, 2016.
The Maryland Half-Marathon, a charity run benefiting the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center, is now held in Maple Lawn in Howard County, and will next be held in May 14, 2016. Previously, it had been held in Timonium, Baltimore County.
