[photo, Sedge, Glen Burnie, Maryland] [photo, Grasses, Glen Burnie, Maryland] Botanically classified as herbs, grasses (graminoids) most commonly are thought of as simple yard cover. Yet, they, along with bay grasses, actually are a diverse group that encompasses reeds and seaweeds. There are more than 3,500 species of graminoids in the world.
